Own a Gun? Be ashamed, very ashamed

Tags: 2a

This article on abc.com by Emily Friedman popped up in my daily Google email of second amendment related news. The article itself doesn't say much, if you have been following the quest for the Republican nomination for president and good old two faced Romney, you probably know about his tepid support for the second amendment. I call it tepid because, well, it is. He checked the box and bought a life membership when he started running for president a few years ago. He has supposedly hunted although he is not a hunter. He supposedly owns some guns presumably at his Utah vacation home. Probably a shotgun and maybe a deer rifle. Whatever. He will be better on guns than the blatant liar currently living at 1600 and since he will be the nominee, a vote for him is better than a vote for the current radical commie that scammed his way past the electorate in 2008.

Anyway, what caught my eye was the title of the article:

Romney to Address NRA Weeks After Revealing He’s a Gun Owner

So he revealed that he is a gun owner. Is it just me or does it come across as something you wouldn't want to admit? Do you think Emily at abc thinks that owning guns is something for which one should be ashamed?

Josh Horwitz, whiny little bastard

Tags: 2a
Josh Horwitz from the so called "Coalition to stop Gun Violence" writing over at the HuffBlow places his whining on full display. He is complaining that supposedly it will be easier to purchase a gun in some states than it is to vote, those states that is, that allow their citizens to sell their property to each other without the state being involved. That is since these states also have a bias against people voting twice, the dead person franchise and voting being limited to actual citizens. These voter suppression laws, you know, the ones that deny the dead the right to vote, seem to be deeply offensive to Mr. Horwitz. Evidently he cares deeply about retaining the right to vote after passing to the other side.

Santorum and the Second Amendment

Tags: 2a, santorum

Speaking to a Texas Tea Party group yesterday, Santorum was asked if the Second Amendment is only for hunting and sports, to which he responded emphatically:

the Second Amendment is there to protect the First Amendment!

He then stated that his family owns firearms for hunting and handguns for personal protection. He cautioned that if Obama is re-elected our rights to firearms will be in jeopardy. The Helleer decision was a 5 to 4 decision by the court, should Obama get to place anybody else on the court, that majority could very easily end up a minority.

Although Santorum gives me with willies because of his outspoken social conservative views, views that could seriously hurt his prospects in the general election, I like his stand on the second amendment. It seems more real to me than Mitten's picking up a Life Membership in the NRA in 2006 just as he began to run for President the first time.

Santorum's stance that the 1st Amendment is protected by the 2nd has the liberal twits at Think Progress up in arms. Then again it doesn't take much to get those pin-headed fools going. They say this about it:

...suggests a vigilante approach that is difficult to square with the rule of law. If each citizen can both decide for themselves what the First Amendment means and then use their personal arsenal to enforce it, the inevitable result is chaos.

Bloody Philly

Tags: 2a

Writing over at Philly.com, Patrick Kerkstra slanders gun owners by saying:

From the perspective of bloody Philadelphia, gun-rights advocates - and their allies in Harrisburg and Washington - appear all too willing to tolerate death in the city so they can protect the sanctity of the Second Amendment in the country.

Yes, us evil people who believe the Constitution, until amended again, closed the door on gun control once the bill of rights was ratified. We are willing to tolerate deaths in the city so that we can continue to cling to our guns.

One good thing about his article is that he sees that the era of gun control has passed. The American people no longer want to have their rights stripped. He attributes this change in attitude over the past few decades to the fact that the violent crime rate is down significantly and therefore guns are less scary than they used to be. Yes, the crime rate is down but the other part of the equation is that gun ownership is up and the number of people able to carry a concealed gun is also way up. Perhaps those armed citizens are the reason crime is down?

He admits that the crime rate is also down in Philly but not to the same degree as the rest of the country. Perhaps this is because of the restrictions Philly has seen fit to enforce on those wishing to obtain a LTCF. Philly goes out of its way to make it hard for citizens to exercise their right to arms. Obtaining an LTCF for a resident of Philly is much more difficult than it is in other counties. Maybe less guns in the hands of the law abiding means more crime?

Twisting the Words

Tags: 2a
The second amendment doesn't have any big words, it isn't long and drawn out, it is really rather simply stated. As Americans we have the right to keep and bear arms. Period. That right shall not be infringed. Period. Yet for some reason judges do everything in their power to restrict those rights while claiming that they are not infringing them.

Raquel Okyay writing at HumanEvents.com says it pretty clearly herself "Life would be simple if pols, judges accepted gun rights as real rights."

“This Court finds that the Illinois Unlawful Use of Weapons’ and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon’ statutes do not violate Plaintiffs’ Second Amendment rights. The United States Supreme Court and the Seventh Circuit have recognized only a Second Amendment core individual right to bear arms inside the home.”
